DIY! Make your own silicone molds and models

Silicone molds can be made quickly and easily by yourself. The two-component liquid silicone is mixed in the specified mixing ratio and then poured into the intended shape over the object to be duplicated. After curing, the mold can then be filled with the appropriate casting compound.

Important criteria for selecting the right type of silicone

Properties before processing

Mixing ratio - equal (1:1) or unequal (e.g. 100:2 or 100:5)
Viscosity - Do you need a liquid, pasty or kneadable silicone? What type of silicone processing is planned?
Processing time - What is the size of the object to be molded and do you need a little more time?

shore hardness - Do you need a soft, medium or hard silicone mold? Can the mold hold the planned casting compound?
Color / Translucency - Translucent silicones can make it easier to cut open the mold when taking impressions of large models.

Silicone rubber is type 19 crystal clear and particularly well suited in the field of 3D printing (stereolithography) in connection with light-curing plastics. Due to medium mechanical properties, it is conditionally suitable for model and mold making with medium requirements.

In the case of translucent or transparent silicones, it is particularly important to determine the area of application and the required transparency in advance.
