AEROSIL 200 – with a total of 180kg of Hydrophilic fumed silica from Evonik
AEROSIL 200 from Evonik is a high-purity, hydrophilic fumed silica (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) with a specific BET surface area of approx. 200 m²/g. This versatile rheology additive is used for targeted adjustment of viscosity and flow behavior as well as for stabilizing and reinforcing a wide variety of formulations.
Due to its very fine particle structure and large specific surface area, AEROSIL 200 can significantly influence the rheological properties of a system even at comparatively low concentrations.

Rheology Control and Thixotropy
In liquid and pasty formulations, AEROSIL 200 can be used for targeted adjustment of viscosity. The formation of a three-dimensional structure in the system results in characteristic thixotropic behavior: Under mechanical stress, the viscosity can decrease and increase again after the stress is removed.
This is advantageous, for example, in paints, coatings, adhesives, and sealants, when good processability is to be combined with high sag resistance.
Anti-Settling and Anti-Sagging
AEROSIL 200 can help to reduce the settling of pigments and fillers during storage and processing. At the same time, the sag resistance of a formulation can be improved, which can reduce the running off of coatings on vertical surfaces.
Improvement of Powdered Products
In powders, AEROSIL 200 can be used as a flow aid and anti-caking additive. It can improve flowability and reduce the undesirable agglomeration or clumping of powder particles.
Reinforcement of Polymer and Silicone Systems
Due to its high specific surface area, AEROSIL 200 can also be used as a functional reinforcing filler. Typical applications include silicone rubbers as well as adhesive and sealant formulations.

Dosing and Processing
The optimal concentration of AEROSIL 200 depends on the specific formulation, the desired rheological effect, and the binder system used.
For coating formulations, Evonik specifies a typical addition of 1.0–2.0 % based on the total formulation.
AEROSIL 200 can be incorporated directly into the formulation or pre-dispersed in a suitable form. For optimal effect, uniform and sufficient dispersion should be ensured.
Storage
AEROSIL 200 should be stored dry and in sealed containers, protected from volatile substances.
When stored in unopened original packaging, Evonik specifies a shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture.
